Fixing a TV to the wall

One thing that’s so often overlooked after purchasing a flatscreen television is thinking about how and where you’re going to hang it. You may have some ideas on were abouts you plan to put the TV, but did you weigh up exactly how you’re going to put it there? What you need is a plasma wall mount bracket, and a little bit of know-how and your TV will be off the floor and on your wall in no time.

Installing plasma TV brackets is childsplay. I say that because I’ve done it so many times myself. A crucial part is choosing the correct bracket for the job, and arguably, the number of brackets to choose from is somewhat of a minefield. Just make sure you ask your supplier for loads of advice, they (should) know the TV models inside out. Tell them what you’ve got and you should get all sorts of options back; a flat panel bracketcan fit snugly to the wall, some move up and down, and brackets with full motion for pointing your TV any which way you please.

The best solution is to go for a bracket with full motion. People often think they’ll never want to move their screen once it’s installed but I guarantee that a moment will one day come when you say “we should have got the bracket that lets you move it!” and you’ll kick yourself. It will probably involve a Wii.

Once you’ve got your bracket, installing will be much easier than thought. You only need to drill a few holes but if you’re fitting it to plasterboard you need to plug the holes with wall plugs. Fix the bracket to the wall, screw in the screws, and slot on your plasma screen. This stuff is (almost) easy enough for a children to do it!
