Mounting a Flat Screen TV

A surefire method of turning a somewhat boring and bland living room into an impressive entertainment area is by installing a flat screen TV.For the DIY novice it may seem like a bit of an intimidating job however with proper tools and a little planning it is a perfectly straightforward task.

Start by deciding on where you wish to place the TV.  Most people will want to set it up in their living room so choose a wall that gives the best viewing position. For larger TVs make sure that you are not too close so take the room dimensions as well as the window location into consideration as you will want to avoid natural light glaring off your screen.

When you have chosen a suitable location for the TV use a tape measure to centre it on the wall.  Next take your TV bracket and mark the general area on the wall of where it should go along with the position of the four screws.Next check with a spirit level to make sure that the bracket is 'flat' and then drill in the screws.

Put a soft cloth on the floor and flip your TV face down on it so that you are looking at the back of it.You should now decide how you wish to arrange and hook up the cables before you hang it on the wall.Next you should secure all of the mounting bars to the TV with the screws that came with the package.Double check that they are firm and secure before you go ahead with mounting the TV.At this time you may wish to get someone to assist you with lifting the screen in case it is heavy.

Once the TV has been mounted connect the audio cables and tighten the locks on the mounting bracket.  You should then finish my connecting up all your external devices (TV box, games console, dvd player, etc) and then plug all these components into a power bar equipped with surge protection.
