We have been itching to get rid of Comcast digital cable for quite a while. The problem is they suck you in with their bundles that include telepone, high speed internet, and TV service. When customers want to remove one of these, you lose the discounts of the bundle.
But the cable television service just has to go, as the service and quality is well below par. There is so much talk these days about high definition, there just wasn’t much selection with Charter cable television. So I began researching who else was available in my area.
I am fortunate to be one of the people who have a few options. Unlike some people who can only choose from just the cable company or satellite TV, I have another option in my region. The phone company in this area has been upgrading their network. So I have another player with Verizon and their FiOS service.
That doesn’t mean of course I won’t have the same problems. It would put someone in the same situation as with the cable television company, because phone guys want customers to package their TV setup with high speed and voice service. If the deal is good, I’ll be pleased. But if its not you’re in the same circumstance that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great.
Most reviews I found are pretty good on telecom television service. Because it is new, there is sometimes a learning curve with a new technology like this, and some people write poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, because people decide to write a bad review on their bad experience and post it on the internet. They rail on the company like it is some huge conspiracy to make the customer unhappy, like the company doesn’t want our money!
Another option I’m seriously considering is of course satellite TV. Because we have four TV viewers in our home, we have subscribed in the past to a high end TV package. The satellite companies are fairly comparable, as the Premier package by DirecTV and the DISH Network America’s everything package are both right around $105 per month. Yes that’s fairly pricey for cable television, but if you compare that to taking your family to supper and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable.
