At one time or another nearly all things have to be replaced and TVs are among one of those things. While looking for a new TV, you will find that televisions are now referred to in many more letters that just the plain old TV. The many different types of televisions now include Plasma, LCD, DLP, and LED TVs, DLP, LCD, Plasma, and LED TVs. Purchasing a new television will also allow you to give up that clunky box for HD conversion since all new televisions are digital and HD ready. Nowadays, you can find many different cheap plasma TVs and LCD TVs, but if you want the latest technology, look into the LED TVs.
Plasma and LCD televisions use fluorescent tubes as lighting for the screens. As these fluorescent tubes are on whenever the TV is on, it is often difficult for them to show deep black colors that are necessary for sharp pictures. At times this may be due to light leaks and at other times, it may be due to the limitation of fluorescent light. Fluorescent light has limitations on the number of colors that will show through the screen. This is due to the quality of fluorescent light and not the liquid crystal diodes, which can show unlimited number of colors. That is the reason fluorescent lighting can limits the colors shown on a TV set, while LED lighting offers a higher range of colors.
If you are buying a LED television, you will want to understand the two types of LED TVs. One is to have the light emitting diode lights along the edge of the television screen and this is what is called an edge lit LED TV. Another is to arrange them behind the screen in a setup called a back lit LED TV. If you are concerned about energy consumption, both of these LED technologies consume less power than a fluorescent tube LCD or a plasma TV set. The edgelit LED TVs cost less money and can also be extremely thin.
While looking for these televisions, you’ll find that edgelit televisions are both thinner and cheaper than the back lit screens. If the sharpest deep dark black colors are what you are looking for, you will want a back lit LED television.
If you don’t know where to look, you can end up paying up to 50 to 100 percent higher for a LED TV compared to a similar feature and size LCD or plasma TV. To find the best LED TV deals, make sure you compare the prices and features at your favorite store and also at the various online bargain shopping sites.
